TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)

What it is

TAVR is a modern, less invasive way to replace a diseased aortic valve (Aortic
Stenosis). Instead of opening the chest (open-heart surgery), a new valve is compressed and guided to the heart through a catheter, usually starting from an artery in the leg.

Who is it for ?

TAVR is an option for patients with severe aortic stenosis who may be at high
risk for traditional surgery, as well as many lower-risk patients.

Frequently Asked Questions :

  • Most TAVR patients go home within 1 to 2 days much faster than the week-long stay required for open-heart surgery.

  • Current evidence shows these valves are very durable, often lasting a decade or more, though research is ongoing.
