Coronary Interventions (Stenting/Angioplasty)

What it is

If a cardiac cath reveals a significant blockage in your heart’s arteries, your doctor
may perform a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). Using the same catheter, a small balloon is inflated to open the clogged artery. Usually, a tiny mesh tube called a stent is placed permanently to keep the artery open.

What to Expect:

  • To relieve chest pain (angina).

  • To stop a heart attack in progress and prevent heart muscle damage.

Frequently Asked Questions :

  • No. There are no nerves inside your arteries, so you won't feel the stent at all.

  • tents are designed to be permanent. However, it is vital to take your prescribed blood-thinning medications to prevent new clots from forming inside the stent.
